The singles are glossy so no fingerprints and there is 12 vs 6 of the black editions. My recommendation is to actually just get the single box set as it comes with 13 volumes. 13 is the how to read final book that goes into detail of the Deathnote's rules and I think there is bonus stories in it. There is no black edition of that final book either.
